Does anyone know if law schools can see when you've opened their applications? I am wondering if opening and beginning to fill the applications out would affect my chances of receiving a fee waiver from those schools, as they might already consider the fee a guarantee from you based on the interest demonstrated from beginning the application. Money is tight for me right now, but I feel embarrassed to email schools to ask if I would qualify for one of their waivers. I've received some merit fee waivers already. I'd appreciate any advice about how to go about requesting them if I should.

PT5.S3.Q23

For some reason I have MBT question stem, and the correct answer is D.

Can someone explain why D is MBT?

.

Thank you in advance!

Hello!

I wanted to ask if anyone knew of any reputable application consulting companies that offer need-based discounts. Spivey's $300 per hour is well out of my affordability, and I've seen that many LSAT tutors/companies offer discounts for individuals who qualify for the LSAC fee waiver.

The $600 unlimited edit option from 7sage looked attractive, but it appears to be sold out and I'm looking to have everything submitted within the next three to four weeks.

Thanks for the input :)

Just had a question regarding writing personal statements and other essays. Any insight from others would be appreciated!

@"David.Busis" also if you have any time/interest to add thoughts.

I'm in the final stages of writing my applications for here in Canada, and I notice that some schools have word limits for their personal statements and optional essays. University of Toronto and Western for example have very clear-cut word count limits and topics to focus on.

There are other schools though that don't offer any word length limit that I can see. I'm struggling with the latter because I don't know how long to make the essay. I'm especially struggling with this for my Osgoode application because they have SOOO many factors that they say to include or potentially include in the personal statement, but no word limit. Should I err on the side of doing a shorter essay? or does the lack of word limit mean they want it to be super long? Based on all the factors they say could/should be included, I could make it a 10 page essay.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hello,

I was hoping to get some advice on a failed class my Freshman year of university. It happened my second semester and my professor failed me because she accused me of plagiarizing an essay however nothing was ever recorded or reported to the school in anyway. She simply called me into her office to tell me she was going to fail me she didn't even let me see which parts she claimed were plagiarized and when I went to the Dean they said they would have to do a formal investigation so I opted not to go that route. There was no preceding, no record, nothing formal. I continued on to get straight A's in every class until graduation. I plan on disclosing the true reasons behind my grade in an addendum. It sticks out and needs an explanation regardless and because I do not want problems being admitted to the bar later. I just want advice on what my realistic expectations should be. I graduated with a 3.5, worked as a paralegal for a while after graduation, and got a 160 LSAT. Should I realistically be applying to grad schools? Should I consider hiring a professional to help with my application? Any help would be appreciated as long as its actually attempting to be helpful thank you!

Why Law

I'm writing my personal statement and I talk about my fathers business in the auto industry and how I've grown up helping him and learning from him and working by his side..and using this knowledge and his connections to start my own business.

I put it in a way that talks about how I can be a GOOD and hard working student and how these things have prepared me for my future endeavors, but it doesn't really answer the "WHY" aspect. I want to shoulder the weight my dad carries and I love thinking and reasoning and debating and writing (I actually do, I'm not just saying it to sound law oriented). I want to be paid to think and let the pen be my sword (is that how the saying goes?).

But so what? Why not write a book , ya know? Lol. My reasons for going to law school aren't based on really concrete things but more so these abstract ideas of representing what I think is the symbol of higher thinking in human beings.

What should I avoid doing in talking about "why law"?

Thank you guys, please ignore the messy and terrible writing here I promise my PS is better! If you'd like

Conditionality

"All that is needed to save the koala is to stop deforestation"...

How would you write it as conditionality?

.

SAVE KOALA --> DEFORESTATION......? (Since ALL indicates sufficiency whereas IS indicates necessity)

.

.

I am getting confused because of this LR question where I need to pick an answer choice that contradicts the statement written above. The correct answer is "deforestation is stopped and the koala becomes extinct", which is not a negation but a contrapositive of "SAVE KOALA --> DEFORESTATION". How can it be a contradiction when it is just a mere restatement of the stimulus?

.

This is from PT2.S2.Q11

.

Thank you in advance

I'm going to be the 9,000th person to post this thread on 7sage, so I'll cut to the chase. Here are my stats: 3.78 LSAC GPA, 166 LSAT (first take), solid PS, and (what I'm assuming will be) great LoRs since I'm so close to these professors because of all the work I did with them in undergrad that I'd call them friends. I'm 26 and have been out of college for going on four years. My average LSAT score is a 169 and the errors I made on the September test were almost exclusively due to test-day stress and strategic fumbles. It's a bummer that my score is below my personal average, but I am confident that buckling down on procedure and timing (coupled with the comfort of my first score being a good one) can boost my score in December.

So here's the issue. My PS is good, I'm happy with it, and I think it sends an important message about me. The editorial work I do professionally is freelance and the furthest thing from earth-shattering, but the flexibility has made it possible to commit my time to the LSAT for the past year. I have led a pretty ordinary, comfortable life, so that paired with my lackluster work life has made me pretty attached to this statement/terrified of what in the actual hell I'd write about if I had to reapply to my target schools, which are Cornell and Georgetown. Everyone around me is saying "just apply to Cornell and GULC this cycle super early and then reapply if you need to." I could realistically get my applications out by the end of this week (10/20), but again, the thought of writing an entirely new personal statement if I need to reapply is giving me nightmares. My gut is telling me that I should just wait until even earlier next cycle, much as it pains me to do so. Essentially, as most other people who post this sort of thread, I'm probably just looking for validation that waiting is the smarter thing to do here. That said, any and all thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Question about LORs

Edit -- now I'm realizing youre supposed to waive your right to read the letters.

so do I ask 2 professors who I was very friendly with often went to office hours and helped the profs with outside of class things and took 6+ classes with each, but didn't necessarily take the classes seriously,

or 2 professors who I took 2 classes with, didn't really know them on a personal level, but went to some office hours, really tried in class discussions was always on time to class etc and got 100% on many papers...I feel like they might write I don't really know her but she did great in class. These were both upper division classes, one of which was for my major.

The one that was my major -- I got the only 100% on the midterm after having to miss 2 weeks (had to tend to a sick fam member in a diff country and handle funeral arrangements etc), the prof was really impressed. The one that wasn't my major I had to drop the class but she was very sympathetic and understanding and she had agreed before to write me an LOR.

Re the professors I was friendly with but didn't try too hard in class -

  • they were foreign lang classes, its my native tongue so didn't really have to try for the A/A+
  • I did win an award in the class (Outstanding 2nd Year Student Award). The professor who gave the 1st year student award gave a lengthy speech about how great the student was in class, the professor who gave my award was just like "didn't really prepare a speech woops. she's really cool and she surfs I like her a lot".
  • I was in the Slavic honor society bc I had good grades in those classes
  • I went to many office hours and always chatted with the professors and brought them coffee and helped them with things like setting up for the club fair
  • I probably had an air of I wanna get tf out of here bc I get really claustrophobic and the 2nd year the class was 15 students at one table in a tiny sort of office space
  • I feel like they might write..she's cool but has a bad attitude ??
  • one of them offered, without me prompting her, to write me an LOR
  • the one who didn't offer, but agreed when I asked, is the head of the department

    Supplemental material.

So I've been looking into books to help me better prepare beginning my pt's. I've obviously ran across powerscore, but am unsure as to whether or not it's worth it due to the reviews I see here and there. Suggestions?

    0

The definition of an intermediate conclusion is that it supports another sentence, at the same time it's being supported by another sentence.

But when I came across "PT70 - 1LR - Q17", I realized the difference between "cause and effect" and "premise and conclusion" can be quite subtle

    Here's my question.

    (1) A causes B,

    (2) B causes C,

    (3) C causes D.

    Therefore, A causes D

Here, "B causes C" seems to be an intermediate cause between "A causes D".

Does it make (2) an intermediate conclusion? because it's supported by another sentence?

Just want some clarification because I think the different between Causation and Argument seem to be overlapping.

    Like if say:

Because A, therefore B--- (That would be an Argument)

    But if we say

B happens because of A--- (That seem to be both a Causation, and an Argument?)

    Any thoughts?

    Hi All,

So I have a bit of a problem. I have some natural ability, but I have a tendency to cram. I did all of the 7sage curriculum in a month and a half before the September test and was scoring in my PTs around 169-172. I then got a 167 on the September LSAT. I ran out of time for LG, which I'm not too surprised about, but am now gearing up for a December (or February/June) retake.

These questions are about LR/RC because in LG when I do something wrong I know exactly what and why but I can not for the life of me figure out the same for RC/LR:

I am wondering if it is useful to go through the curriculum again and if you do, how the many lessons stick in your head and solidify as testing strategies for later use? For example, I was horrible at strengthen questions, did the strengthen part of the curriculum, ended up getting those practice questions right, but then forgetting how to do strengthen questions on a PT because I can't hold all of that info together at once. How do you retain all of it or imbed the skills so you can keep them all in mind for a test? Flashcards? I took notes on each question type and how to solve but it didn't help and reading those notes again was like reading something out of context, and of course I can't just re-do the entire curriculum before every test.

I also found that even if I understood JY's explanations and how to solve for a certain problem, I still get it wrong. Does that mean I'm missing some integral link/understanding? How do I fix this? I will get his explanations perfectly and see exactly why he came to an answer in his sample Q but not be able to mirror that. Conversely, even when something is explained, I can't understand why the correct answer is correct still.

Sorry for the long post, I guess it's an awkward point to proceed when you've done something and now need to re-do it but better?

Also, for all of those with the Trainer, did you do his book before JY's curriculum? After? Or during (and if so, how?)

Thank you so much in advance !!!!

    Hi guys,

So as you can tell by the title, I signed up for the December exam. However, I am feeling extremely demotivated to study. I have been studying since Feb. I had written the June lsat and scored poorly on it. 148 (but I knew i was not ready. I was only doing max 152 before going into the exam). My diagnostic in feb was like a low 130.

I then continued to study all throughout the summer and started PTing around 154-160 (which is my target range). However when I wrote the September lsat, I just got really nervous. It was like my brain froze & I knew I did bad. I got a 149.

My whole summer wasted for just a one point increase. It kind of makes me wanna cry - not going to lie. I was only away from answering one more question correctly to get at least a 150.

    I went

-7 on LR and -14 on the other LR (I was just so damn nervous, couldn't even read properly), I went -10 on games and -12 on reading comp (I don't see myself improving on reading comp - I either get the passage or I don't.).

I took the month off from Sept 16 till now. My first break from the lsat since FEB (focusing on writing personal statements) . However, I don't know where to start. I have about 9 PTs printed to take. Should I focus on drilling? or take full timed PTs?

I have gone thru the CC twice, lsat trainer and I go back to the CC multiple times.

I just feel lost at this point. I felt I knew my stuff to at least get 155-157 but I did so bad AGAIN. and I knew it went bad because I was contemplating canceling my score. I am trying for Canadian schools, so my applications are due in about 15 days - so most of my attention has just gone to personal statements.

It would be really helpful if the custom study schedule generator allowed you to input the number of PTs you wish to take before test day rather than just including every single available PT in the schedule. While I agree the more PTs taken the better, I feel that because the generator includes every PT available in the scheduler (at least for Ultimate+ members) it makes for inaccurate/unrealistic study schedules for the core curriculum content. It would be cool if there was a feature to generate a study schedule of just the CC with the option to include however many PTs a person would like to take during their preparation; like 15 or 20 for example.

If this is already an option someone please fill me in!

    Thanks!

Hey guys! I have a quick question. I am applying to law school in Georgia, and I got into a rear-end car crash a year ago. No one was injured and the damage was minimal, but I was cited and paid a fine. Do I need disclose that? Thank you so much for your help!

Font Size for Personal Statement ?

What font size do you use for your personal statement?

I have read some posts recommending about using font size 12. But, is it okay to use the size 11? (if there is not requirement from the school).

It is extremely hard to accomodate my thoughts in 2 pages with font size 12..

    What are you thoughts?

So we are around 7 weeks out from the December Test. I have the premium package on 7sage and I am wondering if it is worth it at this point to upgrade to Ultimate+. I completed the CC like 5 weeks ago and do return to it frequently.

I am currently missing around 10-13 on LR for both sections. Normally what happens is I go -3/4 on one section and around -7/8 on the other, not sure why but it is pretty consistent. While there is some randomness to the types of questions I'm getting wrong, there are definitely patterns as well. I consistently miss at least a couple SA or NA questions and also seem to struggle with flaw and parallel argument questions. Obviously it affects my test performance as I miss the question, but what's worse is that when I arrive at one of these types of questions on a PT I immediately think "oh no" because I'm worried I'll get it wrong. I then spend far too long on these questions, which sucks because when I BR I realize some of them are actually quite easy (rated around 2 or 3 difficulty stars). So obviously this lack of confidence is affecting me.

I've stopped PTing because it seems ineffective at the moment. I would like to drill LR questions by type. I've looked back to the CC several times at this point to review my trouble areas, so the questions in those problem sets are really familiar to me now. I also obviously have access to the questions I've missed in past PTs (I've taken about 8) and can sort by type using the analytics feature but I would like more.

Does this basically require me to get the Ultimate + ? I now wish I had just gotten it from the beginning, but when I initially began the 7sage curriculum only a month or so before the September test (woooo for underestimating the difficulty of this exam...) I knew I wouldn't have time to complete the ult+ package.

Another thing is that except for the LSAT I sat for in September, I have only taken rather "old" PTs. I know the difference is minimal, but I was also wondering if I should familiarize myself with newer tests, which are available in Ultimate +.

WHY is this post so long, what happened to my ability to be succinct.

TLDR: Is it worth upgrading to Ult+ with only 7 weeks to go mainly for additional LR problem sets?

    WEAKEN

I just wanted to make sure my idea on weaken is correct.

Let's say we are given A-->B....

    .

    Can I Say "A(O) B(X) = Even when A was present, B did not appear" and "A(X) B(O) = Even when A didn't happen, B still did appear" to weaken [A --> B] ??????????

    Hey all,

Since the LSAT scores have come out, I've received fee waivers from some pretty prestigious schools. Like schools that my LSAT score is below the median (my GPA is above most of theirs tho). Like, I just got one from UChicago.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN!? Is it an indicator you have a decent chance of acceptance?

Does it mean they like me and I might get accepted :'(? The e-mail says I've demonstrated a "strong academic record." What does it meeeeeeaaaan?!

    Am I diverse?

Hello! First, wanted to say how much I've appreciated this community. Haven't said much, but through prepping and then waiting for the LSAT results, watching this forums has been a great help.

I wanted to get thoughts about a possible diversity statement. I had never really considered myself diverse. I'm kind of the staple for what being non-diverse looks like (straight, white, male, middle class). But going through the admissions course on 7Sage, it really emphasizes that diversity can look a lot different than is normally considered and one of the main examples they go with is whether someone was homeschooled. Which I was.

So I wrote a diversity statement and my main point was that being homeschooled taught me that even though I don't always have surface-level commonality with people who experienced a more traditional educational experience, there's always a commonality that can be found by going deeper. Example I give: playing on the golf team for my local public school.

    So, two questions:

  • I don't want to be insensitive by claiming to be diverse even though I lack the typical diverse qualities. Am I in danger of doing that?
  • Do you think this lesson is a worthwhile contribution to diversity? This learning to find commonality with all people.
  • Thoughts would be great! Thanks!

    Courses Sold Out?

Wondering if anyone know how long it generally takes for spots to open up in the Admissions course? It looks like all of them have been sold out. Fault's on me for being a late-bird :(

Edit: Already sent an e-mail to reserve a spot

    Just took PT68

    Dear 7sage diary,

I just took PT 68. Holy moly, those last two logic games were quite something.

Haven't done any BR for the test yet so don't spoil too much.

Anyways, I remember complaining about my drastic score drop after taking PT 70. My score for this test (68) is now a one point improvement from my highest score; therefore, a drastic improvement from the most recent score of PT 70.

From this I learned that proper sleep and pacing through each question (meaning not rushing through the first 8-9ish questions as if they afford that kind of treatment) is more ideal than before when I would speed through while sleep-deprived. I didn't get to a couple questions each LR section, but I tend to skip those parallel reasoning questions until I have time. If not, I would just guess based on stimulus concluding word strength. So I'll probably work on those too.

It's quite irritating though. I'm currently spending a huge amount of time on full proofing, but this PT threw me curveball LGs. I ended up not getting to finish the final game. I scored like -7 on this LG section. If only I had gotten -1 or 2 on LG and scored one and/or two each on each of the other sections, I'd break through to my target score.

Overall, can't complain. I only just started full proofing 3 weeks ago and this has been my most successful PT. 1 point increase is a blessing tbh. Feels like I'm doing something right.

Hopefully I can get to a 7 point increase by hopefully Dec or Feb.

    Sincerely,

    Me.

How was the LG experience for you in PT 68?

    Negation

Can someone verify whether my conditional diagraming of the statement and its negation are correct? I get confused...

Not all hierarchical organizations operate in the same way: HO -> /Operate same way

Negation: HO -> Operate same way

    Thank you in advance! :D
