Hello all,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the difference between a necessary and sufficient "switch" in a flaw question (i.e., a conditional reasoning logical fallacy.) In the LSAT trainer it mentions on pg. 101 that a flaw that mistakes sufficient for necessary is one type of flaw (I.e., it mistakes one way for the only way.) I understand this.

It then goes on to state, however, that "You may notice that this is the 'mirror flaw' of mistaking necessary for sufficient, which we discussed in the last lesson."

I guess my question is: What exactly is the difference between mistaking (necessary for sufficient) and mistaking (sufficient for necessary)? Any examples would be helpful.

Need advice on whether to keep this December score or apply with a February score alone for this cycle.

Took the test for the first time on December 3 but it did not go well, partly for physical reasons. Was not a complete and unmitigated disaster but was not close to target, for sure.

Applying this cycle. The December score can likely (though not 100% guaranteed, we can only estimate our score roughly of course) get me into most of the schools I have already applied to earlier in the fall in Canada (they are just waiting for the December score to come out), but I am also applying to T6 in the US using my February score, which I know will be higher.

All schools (in both countries) I am applying to will look at February score (with the exception of certain T6 schools we know who they are), but for half of them it will put me at a disadvantage because of late completion of the file, and the other half not.

I am debating between 1) keeping my December score and get in somewhere first but leaving a low score on my record, or 2) cancel December and just use February alone.

The chief advantage for 1) is I will likely have a few offers before March, perhaps even in January, and ultimately I guess it is the higher score that counts. The good thing for 2) is that there will be no record of a low score, and I tend to think that "cancellation & 172+" will look better than "something in the 'what's going on' range & 172+" to T6 when the February score comes out in early March.

(And needless to say, if my PT is not at 172+ by the February test date, I will just not apply to T6 this cycle. My GPA is around T6 median, and softs in their range too.)

Thank you!

Hey guys so Im planning on sending LSAC my transcripts so i just wanted to clarify something. IF I directly order a transcript from my CC and university that I attended, do i still need the transcript request forms? I was planning on just going to my CC and requesting them to send in my transcripts. And then just order my transcripts to be sent from my university as well. I'm just not sure if I still need the transfer request forms or not? Thanks!

If the former, join a discussion led by Sage Daniel on the LSAT “Do’s” he wishes he had done a heck of a lot earlier in his prep, as well as the “Don’ts” he did that ushered him into plateaus, burnout, and underperformance. Understanding the logic inherent to the LSAT is obviously key to doing well on the test but so is strategy and mindset. This webinar will tackle specifically the ways you can properly direct yourself towards reaching your LSAT potential.

How to improve LR section

Hello! I'm wondering what is the best way to improve on LR. I heard of the drilling packets and I'm debating getting them. Has anyone improved using them? Or should I just stick to doing timed sections and blind review?

I did a lot of erasing.

For those who have taken the LSAT, can I view my answer sheet along with the correct answers? I did a lot of erasing, which might make a fake-wrong answer. I see the portion of LSAC that shows PDF's after the LSAT is taken. Can I view it there?

Hi all,

First of all I have accommodations to write the LSAT for this upcoming Saturday (religious reasons). I'm on the fence of whether or not to reschedule for February.

I have planned all along to write for this upcoming Saturday. Really, the only reason that I wouldn't is if I got sick. Well, I have been feeling very light-headed since yesterday and had a sore throat. Thought maybe I'm just tired. Woke up, still light-headed, though no sore throat. It's like I have the flu but since I got the flu shot, the symptoms are limited. To sum, I am still quite light headed.

I planned to write my last prep test today, and did - LSAT 79. Relative to my other scores, I got an atrocious score (157). I have written ~14 prep tests in my preparation in the past couple months, with this being the lowest. My average prep test score is 163, and I'm hoping to get a score between 161-165 on the LSAT.

Clearly, the light-headedness influenced my score. Especially for RC, where I just blanked. I also added a 5th section - a LR from 77 and got a -10. I have tacked on sections from 77 to my previous prep tests, and got -3 on LR, -1 LG, and -6 on RC, so this again, was an outlier.

It is a tough decision. I have studied for a very, very long time. I first wrote the LSAT in October 2015 (way too early), and did poorly. Wrote again February 2016, did marginally better. So I am facing a 3rd take here, and the last take that can count for this cycle. In addition to this, I have schedule a trip to the Caribbean for 1 week, coming back shortly after the new year. That means after the vacation, I'll have 4 weeks to study, in addition to the 3 weeks i'll have before the vacation. All schools I applied to accept the Feb 2017 score.

My current thinking is this: I know my current condition influenced my PT79 score. If I wake up tomorrow feeling better, and can drill the different sections with my normal level of success and ultimately restore my confidence, I will write Saturday. After all, I got 163, 167, and 163 in the 3 prep tests I did prior to 79. If I'm still dizzy, then...it may be too much of a risk. another "variable" is the amount of prep tests I have remaining to work with is very limited, at least in terms of recent ones. I've done almost all of them, so I would be having to repeat them for my future prep. Perhaps this is fine, and my memory is quite bad so I don't think I'd remember the answers for the most, but still, it's a factor.

This is such a tough choice. What does everyone think? I would appreciate any advice.

Does one cancel look so bad?

I already got my target score in sept. I was hoping to improve by 2-3 points in December. But as the others, effed up games, anxiety continued into the 5th.

So does one cancel do any harm??? I mean shit happens right???

Hey guys! Here's the official December LSAT Discussion Thread. Please keep all discussions of the December 2016 LSAT here!

Here's some ground rules, taken from my usual sticky:

We know that everyone will be excited to discuss what was on the December '16 LSAT, but mentioning specifics about the test (e.g., "I got B for question 6" or "the 3rd LG was sequencing") can get both us and you in a lot of trouble with LSAC. Saying that the test was hard/easy without going into detail is okay, but anything more specific is not okay. LSAC monitors this forum.

If you're unsure what may be too specific, feel free to PM me with what you'd like to post.

The only exception is you can say which sections were real or experimental. For example, the LG with "flowers" was experimental. That's okay.

TL;DR: PLEASE don't talk specifics about December's LSAT in detail!

Here's where you can see the current Real/Experimental Sections:

https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/9666/december-2016-lsat-real-experimental-sections-keywords

Have fun discussing!

High GPA and mediocre LSAT?

Hey y'all,

So, long story short, I'm pretty sure I "effed" up on the Dec LSAT (yes, I read J.Y's post, lol). Section one went somewhat well, section 2 went fine, I tanked section 3 (which was the experimental...woohoo!), section 4 went "okay," and, section 5 (LG)...well let's just say I guessed on 9/23 questions (damn you games 3 and 4).

Anyhow, my target school's average LSAT is around a 165. I'm not even sure if I scored that high. However, I've never done exceptionally well on any standardized test. I always seem to develop testing anxiety while taking them, but never during my university exams. Not sure why, that's how it has always been with me. If I recall correctly, I scored below the average on my SAT, but, funny enough, graduated with highest honors (4.0 LSDAS GPA) from undergrad.

I know some schools will overlook a relatively low LSAT if the applicant possesses a high GPA. My top picks right now are UCLA, USC, UC Davis, and UCI. Fortunately for me, my career path doesn't require me to attend a T14 (although, I wouldn't turn one down).

Do you guys think it's worth keeping my LSAT score and applying this cycle? Part of me thinks I won't be accepted to any of my target schools. If it matters, I have a few ECs on my resume (Public Defender internship, volunteer work with disabled children, VP of a community service club, multiple teaching assistant positions, moot court, and possibly a soon-to-be City Attorney intern). I also have plenty of LORs - one from an individual who doubled as my moot court instructor and supervisor at the PD's office.

If I had to guess, I would say that I guessed on a total of 25 questions on the December LSAT. I have no idea what happened...

In last May, I got a meningitis during final exam/paper period, so I couldn't work well on my final research papers in two classes.

For those two classes, I received B and B- while all other grades in my transcript are mostly in A range with a couple B+.

I don't want to get an unnecessary negative attention because these grades are not terribly bad, but I am bit worried because one of them are a senior capstone research course.

So I just want to hear about your opinions. If I need to write, I will make it just one short paragraph.

I need some SOLID advice

Hello Fellow 7Sagers,

Bear with me as I write the following. I absolutely need advice from people who have either been in my position or are knowledgable about such a situation. I took the September 2016 test, and because of the Grey passage and virus game, I cancelled my score. Ever since then, I have practiced and improved my RC. The logic games section has always been my strongest. I sat for the December 2016 LSAT. I walked into the testing center with an average score on my pretests of 167.5. I was feeling very good. The sequence of my sections were as follows: 1st LR, RC, Experimental LR, LG, 2nd LR. I was doing very well until I got to the LG section. I finished the 1st two games in 15 minutes. For some reason, when I got to the 3rd game I choked. The game might have been difficult but not really. I absolutely know and should have known how to do it. To make my story short, I ended up guessing on the last two games. Absolutely heartbreaking for me because my average on LG is (minus 0 - minus1).

Right now I am battling with a very very uncomfortable feeling because I truly have a dilemma. If I cancel, then that is 2 cancellations, which will not reflect well on my application. If I do not cancel, I might end up with a bad score, or even if not too bad of a score, it still won't reflect my actual potential on this test. My question is, what should I do? Please offer only solid advice. This means the world to me. Thank you.

What are your guys' thoughts on drilling PTs 1-10 for anything other than LG? I just drilled one of the LR sections out of PT 5 and it seemed to me to have a pretty different feel than even a PT in the later teens. Curious as to the general consensus.

I picked PT 5 randomly because I was trying to leave the PTs after 34 whole and the CC appeared to draw more heavily from the early 30s/20s.

Is It Possible?

Hello everyone, I hope the last LSAT administration went well for everyone. I was actually scheduled to write for the December administration but decided to postpone for the 3rd time to Feb 2017 because I was not confident I would reach my goal of 165+ by December. I took a PT two months ago(my 7th) and scored a 160 and decided that I did not want to see another score in the 150's so for the two months after that I drilled like a mad man and even Fool Proofed all games from PT's 1-50(doing 1-35 twice with a 3 week spread in between). I took another PT two months later yesterday and finished BRing and graded it to see that I had gotten a 164(BR score 177). I told myself that if I scored at least a 163 on this PT, that my new goal for the Feb 2017 LSAT would be a 170 because well....why not? lol. Long story short, I guess my question is, with only about 8 weeks and 12 PT's left, I know it'll be a real challenge but is it possible to jump those 6 points and get that 170 by test day? Just wanted some feedback(and I guess some, "you can do its") lol.

RC scoring tactic

Hi Guys,

As a general rule of thumb to score for a 170, for RC, at the current level, I can get level 1-2 difficulty -0; level 3 -0~-1; Level 4: -1~-2; Level 5: -2~--3.

How can you improve level 5 question answering accuracy. During review, I will spend almost 1 hour on the passage, and looking at it, I just have no idea how to not miss the question when under timed exam.

Should I get a tutor like Nicole to help out? Or how can you shore up those points?

So some people are speculating that Deccember's LSAT will be between a -10 and -12 curve. My question is, how does LSAC determine their curve? Is it arbitrary or is it based on our collective performance?

Follow-up question: Are the scaled scores pegged to a percentile score? For example, is a 160 always equivalent to an 80 percentile? Or does it vary?

Hey guys, this isn't really relating to the LSAT but I'm trying to figure out where we input the community college we attended on the Credential Assembly Service. Under "Bachelor's Degree-Granting Institution," I inputted the University that I attended but I don't see where we have to input our community college attended. What did you guys put it under? Thanks!
