Hi guys,

For question #2, we are asked to break down this argument into premises, conclusion, and context.

The common procedure for determining whether a food additive should be banned from use is to compare its health related benefits with its potential risks. Yellow Dye No. 5, an additive used to color lemon soda, might cause allergic reactions in a few consumers. For most consumers of lemon soda, however, the coloring enhances their enjoyment of the beverage. This particular additive should not be banned, therefore, because its benefits greatly outweigh its risks.

This was my answer:

Context: The common procedure for determining whether a food additive should be banned from use is to compare its [food additive] health related benefits with its potential risks.

Premise: Yellow Dye No. 5, an additive used to color lemon soda, might cause allergic reactions in a few consumers.

Premise: For most consumers of lemon soda, however, the coloring enhances their [most consumers] enjoyment of the beverage.

Premise/Sub Conclusion: because its [Yellow Dye No. 5] benefits greatly outweigh its risks.

Main Conclusion: This particular additive [Yellow Dye No. 5] should not be banned.

J.Y.'s was different. Can people explain to me why my answer is wrong? It makes sense to me since the first two premises explain why the sub conclusion (Yellow Dye No.5 benefits greatly outweigh its risks) which then in turn supports the main conclusion. Thanks!

Prep Test 76 on sale?

Has anyone been able to get their hands on the October test yet? It's showing up on Amazon but it says out of stock. So what's more likely ,everyone and their mother bought it or is it showing up to order even though it's not available yet?

Access to PT explanations

In the LSAT Ultimate course package, I noticed that full explanations for LSAT exams before PT 36 are provided when watching individual explanations for problem sets. Is there a direct way I can access these explanations without having to first find an explanation for a problem set?

BR Groups for LSAT in February are so fetch!! Thank goodness we all found 7Sage instead of... Kaplan!

I really can't wait to be done with this exam. I'm starting to get a headache every time I see a question. I feel like I've put a lot of time and energy into this exam but am not getting the results I want. I gave up on trying to score in the high 160s. Hell, I'll be happy with a solid 155, but it seems impossible to achieve, despite my efforts. I am not reconsidering going to law school at all, but I really wish I could just get past this rough patch in my life, known as the LSAT. I feel like I'm in a bind. On one hand, I can't just say F it because if my score is below average, I doubt if I can get into a decent school. On the other hand, I'm struggling to get into the 150s, Lord help me!

    PT Difficulty?

Do anyone share the same feeling that PT in #60s are much harder than PT in #40s and #50s? I completed fewer questions when I took PT in #60s.

I am doing the Miscellaneous Questions Problem Set 5, and 18.4.21 has me really confused. I googled the meaning and got this: http://ell.stackexchange.com/questions/11060/how-to-use-what-is-more

To me it boils down to "furthermore." If that is the case, then how is B not the correct answer? Wouldn't starting your response argument with "furthermore..." mean that you are using the same premises as the previous argument?

Independently, I don't see how E accurately describes the relationship between the arguments. What is the conflicting supposition? I think this answer choice is trying to get you to assume that since there is no general agreement in evaluating the merits of sound (Jane's argument), Mark's claim about "tonal quality" conflicts with that idea. But, isn't tone a more refined idea than sound?

I Googled the definition of sound and got: "vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear." The definition of tone according to Google is: "A musical tone is a steady periodic sound. A musical tone is characterized by its duration, pitch, intensity (or loudness), and timbre (or quality). The notes used in music can be more complex than musical tones, as they may include aperiodic aspects, such as attack transients, vibrato, and envelope modulation."

Sound to me could be anything: random noises to steady/periodic/intentional sound choice. Musical tone, which is a type of sound, has to more with the latter than the former. Doesn't this mean that Jane's premises about sound and Mark's premise about tone both be true? Aren't sound and tone related, but not completely synonymous? I don't see how they necessarily conflict, which is what answer choice E states.

    Causation

For the regular weaken and strengthen questions, I am starting to get better. However, when it comes to causation, I am really confused. There is so much information to take in.

Can someone please give me some pointers?

    PT 69, Sec. 1, #14

We debated this question for a long time in Group BR last night. While almost everyone got the correct answer, we were strongly divided about the actual flaw in the stimulus. Some people held the explanation essentially that the argument failed to consider that it was a dichotomy or binary choice. Now, I know JY, Manhattan Forums, and Graeme Blake all state this as the purported flaw of the stimulus, but I find this explanation to be wanting.

Others, including myself, felt that the stimulus was guilty of circular reasoning. To be honest, to explain that an argument fails to consider the possibility of a binary choice seem like a huge assumption. It also seems downright arbitrary. If that were true, wouldn’t that call into question every time we find that an argument is guilty of a false dichotomy? Whereas Circular Reasoning makes sense to me because the conclusion is essentially a restatement of the premises. This explanation requires far less assumptions (especially the difficult-to-swallow “The two options given COULD be the ONLY options”) than those previously mentioned.

I think this is worthy of discussion and I invite mentors, Sages, tutors, and everyone else who wants to to weigh in on it.

    Question Bank

I was under the impression. When I upgraded to the Ultimate Plus package that I would be getting the question bank with video explanations.... And at least the correct answer for each question. Was anybody else under that impression? Is there a reason 7Sage hasn't posted the answers for all of those questions as well as video explanations?

    Hey all,

I just got accepted to Georgetown today. I feel so relieved that I am T14 secure. I feel forever indebted to 7sage because there is no way that my score would have improved so much without JY and Jonathan's curriculum, and the BR groups on Skype. 7sage has an amazing community, which has motivated me to challenge myself to work harder and harder. Trust me, if I can do it, all of you can do it. I scored a disappointing 147 on my diagnostic and scored a 167 on the October exam after 10 months of hard work. I am still going to retake in December because I was scoring in the 170s and I would like to receive $$$ from the T14. I hope that there are many more acceptances to come. For the people on 7sage who aren't scoring really high, don't give up hope. You, too, can break through your "glass ceiling" and reach your LSAT goals. I plateaued in the 160-163 range for nearly two months. It can be overcome. All it takes is motivation and a will to succeed. I hope other 7sagers have great results as well this application cycle as a result of all of their hard work.

I study all the time and have been for a while. I was first exposed to the LSAT 2 years ago and score in the 120s, but then the highest score I've ever gotten was a 139. Am I retarded or something? I really, really try, but I keep getting the same crappy score. I was a great student in college and did a lot of wonderful things but I feel like a failure when it comes to the LSAT and I'm tired of studying for it over and over again...like damn..when will this nightmare be over?

    1

I learn best when teaching (like most people,) and have also spent enough time with the LSAT that I feel comfortable teaching others. I'm strongest in LR and LG, but open to working together on RC as well.

I have studied Manhattan LSAT (for LR,) LSAT Trainer, Powerscore (for LG,) Testmasters, and obviously 7sage so I am open to using a variety of methods for the different sections.

Available via skype (@lsathopeful) - if I'm online, I'm usually pretty much available.

    Good luck with your studying!

I’ve updated this to include a possible Monday morning (the actual time might change) BR Group session.

NOTE: I front-loaded the PT 70s because I believe that people need to get eyes on 70s sooner rather than later. We’ll still have PT 76 available to PT at the end of November.

    Strategy

I am beginning to PT since i last took a Kaplan course. They suggested that at 12 or 15 you skip to 26 and work backward basically skipping the 2nd to last full page and working back to middle. Does anyone else do this ? is it silly or good advice?

    LSAT 76, Oct 2015

I took the Oct. 2015 LSAT and would love to see the review for it before I take the December LSAT. Does anyone know if 7Sage will be making that available anytime soon?

    Hello all!

I am taking the LSAT in February and I am on a very tight budget but was wondering if the LSAT Starter is sufficient? Will it only be helpful for easy question sets or will I be able to utilize the skills in the LSAT Starter to sufficiently solve difficult problem sets as well? My concern is not being able to master difficult problems on the exam.

I erroneously chose the wrong answer because of the word "reject". I knew the argument was committing an absence of evidence argument/flaw. However, I felt "reject the possibility that" was too strong because I felt just because the author didn't mention it doesn't mean he rejected it. He may have simply not thought about it. It's not like someone brought up the idea and he rejected it.

I'm now considering postponing my test until February but still applying for the Fall 2016 cycle with the score I have until I the other score. My issue with postponing the exam is I don't have a plan of what I need to start doing differently in order to see results... I've been at the same score 151 roughly even after finish the 7sage course. What can I do to ensure that it will go up? I've been at a 151 since April... And seen no sign of improvement. My weakest section is LR I'm averaging -11 -12 per section. Someone please help! I've messaged 7sage tutors and have yet to get a response. Should I just take the exam and be done with it? I feel hopeless at this point.

    Hello,

If there is anyone on 7sage that has applied to American law schools as a Canadian student coming from a Canadian university could you please give any insight as to the process. I am mainly interested in the GPA calculations. My GPA calculated by OLSAS is ~3.92 but under LSAC it is around 3.54. Any insight is much appreciated!

    Hey there fellow busy people.

I have read a lot of articles talk about how people balance the two things but most focus on finding/making time. I have made time but struggle to find focus during that time.

I study an hour or so every morning before work (I go in at 9 but can show up as late as 930 if I stay longer) and try to study when I get home for at least 2 hours. The thing is, my morning hours are usually OK but not great because I'm still waking up (wake up at 645) and my evening hours are getting worse and worse. I catch my self making silly mistakes I normally don't make. Forget PTing, things as simple as drilling games or LR. When it comes to things like wording I miss things where when I BR I'm like "duh." It is like my full focus isn't there and I can feel it not being there. I miss more things during evening drills than during weekend PTs.

I've tried meditating for 10 minutes or so when I get home but it hasn't quite done it. Though it has only been about a week of trying it. I've though about doing drills during lunch but I only have a 30-40 minute lunch but I usually want that time as an actual break to get a breather in my long day. Is this being lazy? And even if I do, its at most 20 minutes worth of games that will just make me feel more stressed at work. Doesn't seem worth it.

Should I be hitting the gym between work and studying or taking a nap?

I just feel like I'm wasting material often times when I drill while tired. Not sure if it would be better to do things untimed or take longer on my BRs from my weekend PTs or simply read some old RC material to get use to the passages.

So in summary I'm wonder if I should make changes to when I'm studying, how I'm studying, or what I am studying.

It was easier before when I was mostly watching curriculum during the week but now that I am done with it I am a little thrown off. For now I decided to take a LSAT break this weekend and go on a little trip somewhere to see if it is jut burnout but I think it is more than that. Like an actual problem with my study schedule/strategy.

Thanks in advance for the advice.
