Hi all. I've been looking around for outside scholarships to apply to and found four scholarships that all use the exact same language. I'm worried they might be scams, but they're listed on UCLA's page for external scholarships (https://law.ucla.edu/admissions/financial-aid/external-scholarships/).

I've been googling but can't find any more information. Has anyone heard about these scholarships and whether they're legit? I'm just confused because they all use literally the exact.same.words.

    Hello all.

    Sorry if my writing is erratic, I'm a little stressed.

    I am currently studying for the LSAT. I began my preparation in January and have been studying roughly 15-20 hours a week. My diagnostic score was a 153. I read through and took extensive notes on the PowerScore Bible trilogy (filled up a three subject notebook cover to cover with hand-written notes.) When the first of April rolled around, I took my first PT and received a 160. My individual sections were strong during the first half of the test and then dropped significantly after the third section break which seems to indicate an issue of endurance. My goal score is 170+.

    I "wasted" April in the sense that I didn't study for a couple of weeks -- due to a family emergency I was traveling extensively and just generally pretty stressed. I deeply regret it because I feel like I'm now a month behind where I wanted to be. I haven't taken another PT and I don't feel like I've made any marked improvements since March. Back in March, I registered for the June test thinking that I'd be well prepared by then -- but now, it feels like its coming up way too quickly. I'm really kicking myself because of it and it fills me with a surprising amount of dread...

    I signed up for the 7sage course recently because I didn't think the Bibles alone were adequate. I've found the course to be super helpful so far - I wish I had signed up back in January! But now, it seems as though I won't be done with the core curriculum until well into May and that won't leave me enough time to do the number of PTs I was hoping to tackle before the test.

    It seems to me that the obvious solution would be to postpone until September but I am beginning a very stressful full-time job in late June and I don't know if I'll be able to juggle LSAT prep as effectively as I am now (I have a very flexible, low-stress part-time job at the moment.) The June administration was also ideal because I was hoping to assemble my application materials in the summer and send them off to law schools as soon as the app window opens in mid-September.

    I was also thinking of just canceling the date and signing up for whatever administration I feel ready for (July, September, etc.) -- I'd lose 80 dollars this way but it'd be worth if for the peace of mind.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Did decent in June 2017 for my first time and got 138. Took it for the second time in February, and I did worse (135). I believe that I did worse on the February LSAT because despite studying as much as possible, I was also grieving at the time. Thinking of reusing the material I have, but would like to know more information to do better my third time.

    I've been taking prep tests almost every day, and my score hasn't budged by more than a few points from an average of 162. Most of my mistakes are in the Reasoning sections, and I know I need to speed up my Games time, but no matter how I study for the Reasoning I'm barely showing improvements there. I'm taking notes on the kinds of questions I miss most so I can review them again, but does anyone have tips on how I can go about fixing this trend?

    Thank you!

    My transcripts for my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and one for three semesters of doctoral study have all been submitted to CAS successfully. However, between my Master's degree and the start of my doctoral work I spent two semesters at Boston University in a non-degree granting, music performance diploma program, and due to an outstanding debt with BU I cannot obtain my transcript.

    How will law schools view this? Is this a matter to be explained in an addendum to my applications?

    The debt is not quite within my budget to repay at this time, though if it were disqualifying for my admission prospects I could probably borrow some money from relatives and take care of it.

    I hope you're ready or gearing up to start PTing for the June 2018 LSAT. Join us this Tuesday if you are finished with the CC.

    Provisional Schedule: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=f3n8s2l60gkgm2ju8m8kk4vhn4@group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/New_York

    Note:

    For everyone: take the PT under timed conditions; BR as you are able on your own; then join us for all or part of the call—everyone is welcome.

    Note: For the purposes of the call, we like to check our group blind review score together at the very end of the call :) So at least don't say ... "No guys, really, it's D, I checked it.” KEEP THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOURSELF. Win the argument with your reasoning.

    These groups work best when folks from ALL stages of prep and with all different goals join in! Not just for "super-preppers" and definitely not just for the casual LSATer (does such a person exist?).

    The only expectation anyone has for these calls is for you to have fun and ask questions as you desire. We are just a bunch of LSAT lovers who gather via GoToMeeting and intellectually slaughter each test.

    Enter any questions you wish to go over on the spreadsheet below!

    So I'm registered for the June LSAT, and I've now begun the final stretch of my LSAT studies and I've noticed a weird phenomenon.

    I pretty much invariably do better when I drill a single section (timed, test center conditions) vs. when I do the whole exam timed. It's got me puzzled, because I can't figure out why I'm scoring less when I do a timed exam vs. just the timed single sections.

    It doesn't seem to be from mental fatigue, as it doesn't matter whether the section comes 1st or 5th, I just seem to miss 1-2 more questions when doing a full PT. In BR I can usually find the correct answer in under a minute but during the exam I guess I just have a stroke? Idk

    What is the diagnosis for this problem? Just do a bunch of PTs? This forum seems pretty opposed to the idea of doing any more than 3 timed PTs per week, but I honestly don't know how to study any more because when drilling I go -0/-1 but on timed PTs I go -1/-3 on my LR and RC sections. The drilling doesn't seem to be productive any more.

    Hello everyone,

    I'm an artist. I got my undergrad degree from an art school with P/F system, so I don't have a GPA.

    I recently got MFA in sculpture, but want to pursue law. Oh, I do have GPA from grad school. but I also read that GPA from grad schools don't really count?

    Because I'm an artist, my resume looks very different from most people, and it's mostly shows and residencies I did with very few work experiences, mainly as a designer and art instructor.

    How will this affect my chances with t14 schools? I see that GPA and LSAT score are the most important factors in the admissions, but I don't have a GPA... and I feel like my resume doesn't reflect some of the qualities the schools might look for in an applicant, whatever that quality is.

    Heeeeelp...

    This is my first PT after I started going back through the 7Sage CC in January. I haven’t taken a PT since around September 2016. Never got over a 160 when I studied over the summer of 2016.

    Tbh I did grade it before BRing it but I’m gonna BR I swear.

    I threw in a random section so it’d be 5 sections, bubbled in my answers, used the timed proctor. Totally choked on the first simple sequencing game since I wrote down a rule wrong and just skipped it and tried to do the next one but still had some nerves so I f*cked that up too, by the third game I finally calmed down and got 100% on the rest of it. Ended up with -10 on LG smh. LRs I hit -0 and -1, RC I got -2. Didn’t grade the extra 5th section yet.

    Haven’t used any prep material other than 7Sage. People on here emphasizing the importance of BR and writing out explanations to answers has helped me a lot.

    Moving forward I’m gonna start drilling one LR or RC section and then immediately do an LG section after. I obviously struggle to switch my brain back into LG mode. I have no problem with LG until I’m taking it in the middle of an exam.

    11

    As I go through the core curriculum and the study schedule 7sage made for me, should I be doing the problem sets in the curriculum timed or untimed? Right now I'm doing them untimed because I want to master each question type and method for solving it and worry about time when I start doing PT but I want to know what you all think? Timed or untimed problem sets that are in the core curriculum?

    Can someone explain this question to me please? I totally dont get it. I dont see why superior conductors even have to exist in order for this argument to hold true. I dont really see any of the ACs as being viable.

    Like, one could say that the mark of a purple dragon is having scales and a big tail...that doesnt mean that purple dragons have to exist.

    I feel like D) tries to hone in on just saying that it is possible for this conditional argument to actually occur in the real world, specifically amongst top orchestras.

    This was my thinking:

    SC -> AI -> ER

    To be a superior conductor, one must have the authority to insist that rehearsal work be intensified, and to have this authority one must earn respect of his/her interpretation

    A) & B.) are just nonsense

    C) I crossed off bc orchestras could sometimes not be ready. If the contrapositive of the stim. holds true, then orchestras could just never respect their conductor's interpretation and thus never [want to] be ready for intensified work. Also, work could be intensified regardless of the orchestra's readiness.

    D) If orchestras sometimes dont appreciate the merits of an interpretation...then those some orchestras just wont respect their conductor and that conductor isnt superior. I dont see how this wrecks the argument since it matches up with the contrapositive /ER -> /AI -> /SC

    E) I just ended up guessing this. I dont think this is necessary. It could be the case that all top orchestras are led by superior conductors. It could also be the case that some of them arent led by superior conductors.

    Why does this early PT seem way harder than the later PTs ugh

    I have offers from both places with similar scholarship amounts. I have been waitlisted at UofM , but doubt i'll hear back anytime soon. Even if i do, i doubt there would be any scholarship money. Which of these two is a better option? MSU is better ranked, but Wayne is in Detroit, which means better networking opportunities. Any suggestions?

    So as I'm slowly making my way through the course I'm nervous that although I do the practice questions well I'm afraid that I'm not doing enough. I work full time as a litigation assistant, as some of you may know and probably have experienced this position is extremely demanding and at times I find it difficult to sit down and focus after a long day. However, every Saturday and recap and get things done. At times I find myself wondering if anyone used any other study materials i.e books along with the course to help them or are people just solely relying on the course? I have all the powerscore bibles and read them once A LONG LONG time ago, would it be worth it to re read them and continue this course? I haven't taken a prep test because my first one acouple months ago was TERRIBLE. idk just nerves and wanting to find a way to conquer this test. So far, I feel like this course is explaining things in a different light and helping me understand things better.

    Hi Guys,

    Can you please help with this question ?

    Either A’s faction or B’s faction, but not both, will win control of the government. If A’s faction wins, the nation will suffer economically. If B’s faction wins, the nation will suffer militarily.

    Given the statements in the passage, which one of the following statements must be true?

    (A) It is possible, but not certain, that the nation will neither suffer economically nor suffer militarily.

    (B) If the nation suffers economically, it is certain that A’s faction has won control of the government.

    (C) It is certain that the nation will suffer either economically or militarily, and also certain that it will not suffer both.

    (D) If the nation suffers militarily, it is possible, but not certain, that B’s faction has won control of the government.

    (E) If the nation suffers both economically and militarily, it is certain that neither A’s faction nor B’s has won control of the government.

    I tried to apply the conditional logic but still i am not able to figure it out.

    AW - A's faction wins

    BW - B's faction wins

    NSE- Nation suffers economically

    NSM- Nation suffers militarily

    ST(1) : AW->/BW

    BW->/AW

    ST(2) : AW->NSE

    /NSE->/AW

    BW->NSM

    /NSM->/BW

    I am not able to derive D (Right AC) from this logical conditionals.

    I hope it is rephrased correctly.

    Thanks.

    I don't know whether I would attend Harvad Law or not if admitted off the waitlist. Harvard sent me an email with the following guidelines asking me to remove myself if I cannot agree to accept a position if offered off the waitlist.

    "By remaining active on the waitlist you agree to:

    -Accept an offer of admission if it is extended to you; we will ask that you accept the offer of admission within 24 hours.

    -Accept the offer before you have received any information about your financial aid package at HLS. Please keep in mind our financial aid packages are need-based and therefore are not affected by the admissions timeline—packages for waitlist admits are determined in exactly the same way as those admitted earlier in the cycle.

    -Accept the offer before you have a chance to secure housing. Historically this has not been a problem since three housing options (HLS dorms, Harvard University Housing, and the private Cambridge housing market) typically remain very active throughout the summer.

    -Withdraw your seat at any school to which you have committed if offered admission at HLS.

    -While this process is very time-sensitive, please understand that we operate on this timeline in order to get our waitlist admits fully situated before classes begin in the fall. If you have concerns about the above guidelines, or if you have new information about your plans for this fall that prevents you from remaining on the waitlist, please visit your status checker and complete the waitlist withdrawal form. If you are comfortable with these guidelines and wish to remain active on the waitlist, then no action is required at this time."

    I don't think they have any way to enforce this guideline. I'm generally predisposed to oppose the creation of unenforcable guidelines or rules. However, I don't want to be on the waitlist in bad faith.

    I will be attending University of Michigan Law School with a $150,000 Dean's Scholarship unless I end up attending Harvard (or Yale which I have not heard back from). I think this is an option worthy of being undecided about whether to attend Harvard.

    This is my random thought. If I could get the LSAT sections line up in an order. This is an order that I wish it would be LR RC LR LG or RC LR LR LG. My reasoning is simple. I want to save my best stuff to close up and finish well. Much like a baseball game. The last part would be like a pitcher who is an ace that strikes out a lot of batters to close off the game and preserve the lead. Or 4th section to put the strong homer run hitter that cleans up. My PTs have been for the last 18 PTs 180.

    Except one or two where it would be 179. I am sitting for the June 2018 LSAT and feel like I am going to the World Series to win the whole enchilada. Some people hate and dread the LSAT. I love the LSAT.

    Wondering if anyone has seen improvement in scoring after incorporating something like meditation, qi gong, yoga, vigorous exercise, or anything like that into their daily routine. I used to meditate everyday and I remember it helping me think clearly, which seems like it'd be helpful for the LSAT. What do you think? Does anyone feel like they can attribute positive results to something besides studying?

    So I have been off the discussion forum for the most part while I was going through the CC but now I am ready to jump in and get some advice. I have been very embarrassed of my PT scores but I’ve realized I cannot improve if I don’t own them. I would like to think I am fairly intelligent but my test taking abilities have always been lacking to say the least. This is mostly due to my ADD but that wasn’t something I realized I had until after college so I am used to working hard to keep up with everyone else. Which I fully expect to do here because even though I will be requesting additional time, I plan on taking all of my PTs with regular time until my accommodations have been approved. Either way time is my enemy! I know a lot of people like to look at the clock and know how much time is left but honestly that hinders me more than anything. As soon as I hear 5 minutes are left all the questions I have left I can almost guarantee will be either left unanswered or incorrect. My ability to focus is thrown out the window and all I can think about is the clock ticking away. I have watched the webinar on Post CC Strategies but I could really use some advice on what I should focus on next. I am ready to start on fool proofing LG but after my BR I am not sure if that should be my focus right now. I actually really enjoy LG and other than reviewing conditional lawgic and working on timing, LG is actually my strongest section in my BR.

    Some background info on my PTs; my diagnostic back in June 2016 was a 135. I actually reconsidered law school at that point but after some time spent reflecting I realized it is something I am really passionate about so I decided to try again. My second diagnostic in April 2017 was a 142. Both of these were done with Kaplan using PT56. Now I really didn’t want to take either score too seriously because I actually remember dozing off on one of them and guessing on some when the time was running out.

    However here is my breakdown of my after CC PT I did this past weekend:

    Original 1st BR 2nd BR

    RC -17 -12 -10

    LR -12 -5 -5

    LG -11 -7 -2

    LR -11 -7 -7

    The reason you see a 1st and 2nd BR is because I only went over the questions circled in the 1st BR. I then scored the PT without looking at the answers and was not happy with a 157 BR score. So I went ahead and went back over the entire test and that is how I came to a 2nd BR score of 160. My plan is to now watch the explanations of the questions I got wrong. However, after I do that, I don’t know if I should go ahead with my original plan of fool-proofing LG or if I should focus on LR and RC first. What does everything think?

    Also I do not plan on going to a t14 school nor do I expect my score to eventually be in the 170s. I want to focus on Child Advocacy and Juvenile Law and just want to get into school and get a scholarship. I’m hoping to get into Texas A&M and after doing research on people accepted and offered scholarships based off GPA and LSAT scores I believe a 160 should be good with my 3.38 GPA.

    I really appreciate everyone for taking the time to read this :)

    LSAT 21.S2.Q5 For D, it says, "Concedes the very point that it argues against."

    I thought it meant this person is not arguing against the main point of the argument. However, the other website explanation says it's circular reasoning answer. Is it really circular reasoning ...?

    Hey y'all,

    A few details to explain the situation:

    My VA benefits will pay for the first two years of law school.

    I was offered a 50% scholarship.

    For those first two years, the school will be paid full tuition by the VA and the scholarship will not apply until I have exhausted my benefits.

    During a phone conversation with the dean of admissions, he told me that he could apply those unused scholarship monies to completely cover my tuition for the third year.

    However, when I received the official letter yesterday, there was no mention of reallocating those funds per the phone conversation. Another member of the admissions team told me that practically speaking the school would have to give me a 100% scholarship, which they are not willing to do. She then told me would she have the dean call me, but I have to yet hear from him.

    Any thoughts on how I should go about having this conversation with him?

    Long story short: I have been waitlisted at 5 schools. Sent 2 loci, visited. It's been 3 weeks with no answer. I want to keep in touch. Should I send a quick email? What should I say? Is it appropriate to send a transcript addendum?

    Hey guys,

    I was wondering if anyone has tips for LG on finding the floaters when you're just hit with a bunch of game pieces, usually like 8+ and then a bunch of rules that may or may not have mentioned these pieces. I know JY says to find the floaters each game, but I find that I'm spending more than I probably should to do this step each game, so if anyone has tips..

    In addition, in many of the games, for questions you have to go back to the rules and see if they've been rendered irrelevant or if they trigger, on the videos JY just crosses out etc. But ofc we can't do that on paper, it was suggested that we cover it up with our hands but I find that's unhelpful esp when there's a bunch of rules. So does anyone have tips for some sort of systematic way to keep track of whether each rule was triggered/irrelevant for each question (when the question requires you to go back to the rules ofc not EVERY question) so that we don't just have every rule still staring at us while trying to eliminate those that don't matter. I do try to pare down rules and write them next to the Q when there aren't that many, so again, this Q is more for those games where there are just a ton of rules and you can't afford the time..

    thanks so much in advance!

    Hi guys! I've been taking practice LSATs at 168 with a BR score of 173. I'm trying to improve timing so I can get to that higher score. I just read something that said people wait to the end of a section to fill in the answer sheet. Whereas I just fill it in after every question I complete. I'd really appreciate your insights about whether waiting to fill it in saves you time or whether it increases error rate in the transfer process? Thanks in advance!

    Hi everyone,

    I just received an offer from a lower rank school which I am willing to attend. However, I am still waiting for a response from a higher rank school which I really like but hasn't get back to me yet (not even waitlisted).

    So I would like to know, will sending the higher rank school the offer from the lower rank school increase my chance of getting in, or will it help speed up their decision making?

    Just so you know both schools are in Chicago.

    Thanks in advance!
